Our brief history:
Kitsap County Parks and Recreation Department had established a volunteer docent program when they leased the lighthouse property from the Coast Guard in 1997. This small but dedicated group of volunteers saw the need for establishing a non-profit group that would support the work of the county and reach out in other ways to protect and preserve their beloved lighthouse. Thus began The Friends of Point No Point Lighthouse, founded in August of 2006.
Our goals include:
increasing our educational outreach,
assembling a more complete history of PNP Light Station
support Kitsap County in its work at PNP with gathering volunteers to assist with keeping the grounds clean, minor repair projects, etc.
reasearching grant possibilities for funding restoration projects at the light station
In March of 2009 we became a chapter of the United States Lighthouse Society whose headquarters are now located at Point No Point in one half of the Light Keepers' Duplex. As a chapter of the USLHS, we are still an independent 501(c)3 organization but are better able to make use of the Society's wealth of historical information and artifacts that will help us assemble more historical details from the light station's history. The Society also provides its chapters with the moral support and advice that is so often needed by fledgling organizations such as ours.
